Electric Log Sets

An electric log set drops into an opening you already have and gives you flames without a fire, a sweep or a fuel bill. No chimney work, no venting, no ash. You plug it in and you are done.
What to check before you buy
Measure the opening three ways. Front width, back width and depth. Tapered period fireplaces are narrower at the back than the front, and that measurement decides which size actually fits. Leave 5cm behind the set for the cord and the heater intake.
Decide whether you want heat. A flame-only set draws a few watts and costs pennies an evening. A heated set adds 5,200 BTU, which warms roughly 400 square feet, and draws about 1.5 kWh on full. Both are legitimate choices: some buyers want the look, others want the warmth.
Choose the log finish. Split oak reads traditional. White birch reads coastal and Scandinavian. Driftwood suits pale, calm rooms. Crystal scatter and reflective ember beds suit modern interiors. The finish matters more than the size, because it is the thing you will look at every evening.
Sound, flame realism and running costs
Crackling sound is generated rather than recorded, so it will not loop audibly, and you can turn it down or off. Flame realism comes down to the number of log mouldings, the depth of the ember bed and whether the flame sits behind glass. More logs and a deeper bed always look better, which is why our most realistic set uses six individual charred logs.
Running costs stay modest. At the US average of about 15 cents per kWh, full heat costs roughly 22 to 23 cents an hour, and the thermostat cycles the element so a typical evening lands nearer 15 to 17 cents. Flame-only mode is a fraction of that.
Fitting it yourself
Place the set, plug it in, and turn it on. Most installations take under ten minutes and need no tools. If the opening is deeper than the set, bring the logs forward so the flame reads at the front of the firebox. If the fireplace is gas, have the supply capped by a qualified plumber first and leave the chimney ventilated.
Every set here ships tracked in 2 to 5 business days, with a flat $50 delivery charge under $1,000 and free shipping over $1,000. Not sure which fits your opening? Send us the three measurements on the contact page and we will tell you honestly, even when the answer is that a cheaper model suits you better.
