Mirrored Electric Fireplaces

Mirror does one thing better than any paint: it doubles the light in a room. A mirrored fireplace uses that to make a small or north-facing space feel wider, while still giving you a real fire with heat you can switch off.
The four mirrored styles, and what each is for
Mirrored TV stands and consoles put the reflection where the furniture already is. Best in flats and narrow living rooms, where a dark cabinet would close the space down. Real 4mm mirror glass, not acrylic, which clouds within a year.
Wall-mounted mirror panels hang like a picture and take no floor at all. The mirror runs to the edge of the panel, so it reads as a mirror with a fire in it rather than a fire with a frame.
Mirrored surrounds go against a chimney breast, with mirror panels either side of a black firebox. This is the version that makes a fire look built in rather than placed.
Chrome, silver and antiqued glass are the metal and period variants: polished stainless steel for a sharp modern look, brushed aluminium where fingerprints would be a nuisance, and antiqued bevelled glass for period rooms where plain mirror looks like a bathroom cabinet.
What to check before you buy
Mirror shows everything, so position matters more than it does with a painted cabinet. Point it at a window or a bookcase, not at a doorway. If it faces a television, expect to see the screen in the reflection while it is on.
Measure the breast or wall width at three heights, take the smallest figure, and allow 5cm either side and 25cm above. Every unit runs on a standard 120V outlet with a 72-inch cord, usually exiting on the right.
Cleaning, honestly
Glass cleaner on a microfibre cloth rather than sprayed onto the panel, wiped in one direction, buffed dry. Never use paper towel, and never let water sit on a bevelled edge, because it wicks behind the silvering and stains it permanently. Antiqued glass looks dusty even when clean, so leave it alone beyond a dry cloth.
Heat and running costs
All of these run the same 1,500W element rated at 5,200 BTU, which heats 400 to 600 square feet comfortably. At the US average of about 15 cents per kWh, full heat costs roughly 22 to 23 cents an hour, and the thermostat brings a typical evening nearer 15 to 17 cents. The flame runs independently, so the fire works as lighting for most of the year.
Shipping is tracked and arrives in 2 to 5 business days: flat $50 under $1,000, free over $1,000, with a $150 minimum order. Questions about which finish suits your room go to the contact page, and we will tell you honestly when the cheaper option is the better one.
