Mantel & TV Stand Fireplaces

A mantel fireplace and a TV stand solve the same problem from opposite ends. One gives you a shelf at eye level and a traditional surround; the other carries a screen and hides the cables. Both do it without a chimney, a flue or a builder.
Choosing between a mantel and a TV stand
Choose a mantel if the room has a wall worth decorating, you want somewhere to display objects, and the television lives in a different corner. Mantel fireplaces also suit period and cottage rooms, where a low modern console looks imported.
Choose a TV stand if the television is the main event. Look at the weight and width rating rather than the screen size on the box: a 65-inch panel is around 25kg and amplifies any twist in a cabinet, so a braced top rail matters more than veneer.
Choose a console if you want the quietest option. Low, slim, against a wall, holding a lamp and a stack of books. It is the piece that adds a fire without demanding a feature wall.
What to measure first
Wall width, socket position, and the distance from the floor to where the bottom of a television would sit. A fireplace under a screen should leave 4 inches of clearance, and the body needs to stay low enough that the screen sits at eye level when you are seated, usually around 32 inches from the floor.
Leave 25cm above the unit and 90cm clear in front. Every unit here runs on a standard 120V outlet with a 72-inch cord, usually exiting on the right.
Heat, storage and honesty about both
All of these run the same 1,500W element rated at 5,200 BTU, which heats 400 to 600 square feet comfortably. At the US average of about 15 cents per kWh, full heat costs roughly 22 to 23 cents an hour, and a thermostat brings a typical evening nearer 15 to 17 cents. The flame runs independently, so it works as lighting for most of the year.
Storage is worth inspecting properly. Drawers under a firebox are never deeper than 16 inches, shelves rarely carry more than 15kg, and any unit selling itself on hidden storage should tell you which of those numbers it means.
Fitting it
Panels and fireboxes assemble in under an hour with two people. Nothing is cut, plastered or vented. Shipments are tracked and arrive in 2 to 5 business days: flat $50 under $1,000, free over $1,000, with a $150 minimum order.
If you are unsure which shape suits the room, send a photo and the wall measurements to us on the contact page. We would rather point you at the cheaper model than sell you one that crowds the doorway.
