Good firewood deserves good storage. After 12+ months of careful seasoning, the last thing your wood needs is a tarp wrapped tight or a pile on wet ground undoing the work. Storage is simple — three rules cover everything.
The Three Golden Rules
1. Off the ground. Ground contact wicks moisture back into the bottom rows and invites insects and rot. Use a rack, pallets, or rails — anything that keeps an air gap under the pile. Our storage range has purpose-built options.
2. Covered on top only. Rain from above is the enemy; airflow from the sides is the friend. Roof the stack, angle a tarp like a roof, and never wrap the whole pile — trapped moisture re-wets the wood and invites mould. Open-sided covering is the compromise that works.
3. Somewhere breezy. Sun and wind finish the drying job. A sheltered, airless corner holds dampness; an open aspect keeps wood crisping nicely right through autumn.
Season-by-Season Rhythm
- Buying early? Stack now, burn next winter — wood only improves with months in a good stack (see sizing your order)
- Peak winter: keep a few days’ supply under cover near the door; top up from the main stack in dry windows
- Wet delivery day? Surface rain dries in hours — the seasoned core is unaffected. Stack it and let the breeze work
Indoor Storage
Small indoor stocks are safe and convenient: a bin, sling or hearth-side rack holding a day or two of fuel (browse indoor options). Two limits: never store large quantities indoors — it’s fuel load you don’t want in a house fire — and bring in only what you’ll burn soon, so insects stay outside where they belong.
